ONLY WORDS

This is a collection of short writings as I explore my growing interest in words and writing. I started by writing short stories to accompany new photos I post on my blog each month, to adding titles to my photos (harder than it sounds), then adding Haiku to select photos, and finally to experimenting with words with no images at all! Let’s see where this leads!

Write Your Story

I went to the funeral of a close friend’s father. He was 97 and lived a long, incredible and full life. He and his wife raised a great family. Each of the four children read something about their father at the funeral and each of the stories was different - but each story was very moving and from the heart.

A few days later the question arose in my head… what will your children, or anyone,  say about you when your time comes?  Will they talk about your career accomplishments?  Will they talk about how you helped others?  Will they talk about how you were always there?  Will you be proud of the story they share?  Will it be the story you want it to be?  Is it a non-fictional account of who you truly are?

Each of our stories is already partially written -  but it is not complete. Some stories start off slow and then become incredible page-turners. Some stories are full of early challenges which are ultimately overcome. Some stories are non-stop action from the beginning to the end. What is your story so far?  Will it continue on its current arc or will there be a big change? A surprise?

The stories they will tell about you are not things that simply happen to you. You are in control of your story. You determine the outcome - whether it’s a story about drive and purpose, exploration, or a simple love story.

You can write your story now. Get started. It’s never too late.

Do it now. Do it every day!
