Sundown At Great Falls

Last Light On Great Falls

Twenty minutes away from the bustle, noise, and traffic of Tysons Corner and less than thirty minutes from our nation’s Capitol is a small but grand spectacle where the Potomac River thunders through Mather Gorge. This is Great Falls of the Potomac, and on one evening in May, it provided some beautiful light for a few minutes after the sun went down. After all the picnic’ers left, and the teens taking selfies left, and the screams of young kids died down, it became quiet. And the light did a wonderful thing in the twilight of the day, while clouds arranged themselves to mimic the shape of the signature falls.

What Quiet Looks Like

What Quiet Looks Like

This is Quiet Light… it’s what quiet looks like. I arose before sunrise and was exploring the foothills of the Blue Mountains in PA. But it was cloudy and nothing caught my attention. Until, the clouds started breaking apart and letting in the first few rays of the sun’s golden morning light. This is what the land looks like on a summer day, when literally the first few minutes of light bathe the fields and land.
